Shillong, June 9: Efforts are on by the state government to resolve the issue related to clearing the terminal benefits of Rs 840 crore to the MeECL retired employees.
Power Minister James Sangma told reporters on Wednesday that the government is hopeful to find a resolution to the matter at the earliest.
“We would like to tell the retired employees of the MeECL that the government is trying its best to resolve the issue”, he said.
The Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) has already threatened to file an FIR against the government for the delay in clearing the terminal benefits pending for the past 11 years.
When asked, the power minister said this is an issue that the state government is very concerned about.
Sangma said the Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission has disallowed passing on of terminal benefits to the tariff and this has resulted in the inability of MeECL to clear the terminal benefits of the retired employees.
“We have been studying this matter and this is something that has been referred to the Advocate General of our state for examination,” he said.
He added that the department is also in discussion with the finance department in this regard.
