Shillong, Dec 7: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has written to the PWD executive engineer in Khliehriat division for repairing the Umsuwai bridge in East Jaiñtia Hills located on Musniang-Rangad road.
In a statement, JNC said the two-decade-old bridge is a lifeline for residents of seven villages. “The iron bridge is lying in a pitiful condition. Out of the long-term disrepair, the bridge floor and bridge girders had the potential danger all the time,” it added.
“To ensure the safety of the commuters, we the organization with great hope request your esteemed office to please do the needful and that is the bridge needs to be repaired as soon as possible,” said Mehi Rymbai, JNC in charge of the 7Shnong Circle.
The executive engineer said he would take up the matter with the high authorities and assured fast action.
