KHADC chairman meets union junior minister of finance, seeks funds
Shillong, July2: KHADC chairman Pyniaid Sing Syiem met union minister of state for finance Anurag Sing Thakur in New Delhi on Friday and took up issues concerning the council.
Rs 450 crore released
Thakur informed Syiem that Rs 45 crore was sanctioned by the 15th finance commission and the same was released to the state government and subsequently the money was transferred to KHADC for 2020-21.
Syiem urged the union minister to release the installment for 2021-22 also.
Salary of staff
Syiem apprised the union minister that the NGT ban on coal mining has affected the revenue of the state thereby reducing the share of the council from the major mineral.
According to Syiem, Rs 50 crore per year is required to pay the salary of around 700 council staff.
Since there is a shortage of revenue, Syiem urged the minister to allot Rs 25 crore to the council yearly from the revenue deficit budget of the Centre.
Rs 6 crore for heritage village
The KHADC chairman also urged Thakur to provide Rs 6 crore for construction and renovation of Khasi Traditional Heritage Village currently at Mawphlang and a decision will be made regarding its permanent venue.
