Shillong, June 10: The Apex Council of Meghalaya Cricket Association has sought the administrative intervention of BCCI to address the issues plaguing the Meghalaya Cricket Association.
Two letters were written to the BCCI.
While the letter written on June 5 by the MCA apex council members wanted the BCCI to take administrative control of the affairs of the MCA, the second letter of affiliated district cricket associations in Meghalaya, on June 3, apprised the BCCI on the adverse impact of the present situation on cricket activities and players in Meghalaya.
Issues like sexual harassment, delay in releasing payment to the support staff and arranging tournaments have marred the functioning of the MCA.

Subject: Request for Administrative Intervention in Meghalaya Cricket Association
Dear Sir,
We write with deep concern regarding the present constitutional, administrative and operational situation prevailing within the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA), which has resulted in serious governance deadlock and institutional instability affecting the proper functioning of the Association.
Over the past several months, various constitutional and administrative disputes have arisen within the Association relating to governance, operation of bank accounts, functioning of the Apex Council, validity of certain proceedings and appointments, conflicting communications and overall administrative coordination among office bearers.
The situation has now reached a stage where the normal functioning of the Apex Council has become increasingly difficult and strained, thereby adversely affecting the day-to-day administration and functioning of cricket activities within the State.
The continuing impasse has also affected operational matters relating to financial administration, institutional decision-making, coordination among office bearers and the overall credibility and stability of the Association.
The continuing impasse has also resulted in difficulties relating to the operation of the Association’s bank accounts and financial administration, which in turn has affected the timely discharge of various financial obligations and routine administrative functions. The resulting uncertainty has reportedly impacted timely disbursement of salaries, honorariums and other payments relating to employees, coaches, support staff and cricketing operations, thereby further affecting the efficient functioning of cricket administration within the State.
In addition to the governance and administrative concerns stated above, the present deadlock has begun to adversely affect the interests of players and cricketing activities within the State. The uncertainty surrounding the functioning of the Association has resulted in delays in important cricketing decisions, planning and preparation for the forthcoming domestic season.
Despite the BCCI having already notified its domestic calendar and schedules, the Association has not been in a position to undertake timely preparatory activities, including conduct of player trials, selection processes, training camps and other developmental programmes necessary for participation in national competitions. This has created uncertainty amongst players, coaches, support staff and affiliated district associations regarding the forthcoming season.
The continuing administrative impasse has also affected planning relating to player logistics, travel arrangements, accommodation, support staff deployment, tournament preparation, procurement of equipment and other operational matters essential for effective participation in BCCI tournaments and competitions.
Young cricketers across the State, who depend upon a stable and functional Association for opportunities and representation at various levels, are increasingly becoming the unintended sufferers of the present situation. Any further delay in restoring normal administrative functioning may seriously prejudice the interests, preparation and competitive prospects of players representing Meghalaya in the forthcoming domestic season.
The prevailing uncertainty is also affecting confidence among players, parents, coaches, support staff and affiliated units, who look to the Association for proper planning, timely communication and smooth conduct of cricketing activities. Unless the present deadlock is resolved at the earliest, the overall development of cricket within the State is likely to be adversely affected.
In the larger interest of cricket administration, players, stakeholders and institutional stability, it is felt that neutral administrative intervention may now become necessary in order to restore proper governance, constitutional functioning and confidence within the Association.
We therefore respectfully request the Board of Control for Cricket in India to kindly consider appropriate administrative intervention at the earliest for restoration of normal constitutional, administrative and cricketing activities within the Meghalaya Cricket Association.
This request is being made solely in the interest of preserving the integrity, stability and smooth functioning of cricket administration in the State and not with any personal or adversarial intent against any individual office bearer.
We remain fully committed to extending all cooperation and assistance for any inquiry, review or administrative process that the BCCI may deem appropriate in the circumstances.
Yours faithfully,
For and on behalf of the Members of the Apex Council, Meghalaya Cricket Association

Subject: Representation Regarding the Adverse Impact of the Present Situation on Cricket Activities and Players in Meghalaya
Respected Sir,
We, the undersigned affiliated District Cricket Associations of Meghalaya; respectfully submit this representation to draw the attention of the Board of Control for Cricket in India to the difficulties presently being faced by cricket stakeholders across the State owing to the prolonged uncertainty affecting the functioning of the Meghalaya Cricket Association.
The affiliated District Cricket Associations constitute the foundation of cricket development in Meghalaya and serve as the primary platform for identifying, nurturing and preparing players who go on to represent the State in various BCCI tournaments and competitions. Any disruption in the functioning of the State Association inevitably affects the districts, the players, and the overall cricketing ecosystem within the State.
At present, the continuing uncertainty has begun to adversely affect cricketing activities at multiple levels. While the issues relating to the administration of the Association may be under consideration before the appropriate authorities, the resulting delay in decision-making has created a situation where several important cricket-related activities remain uncertain or pending. This has caused growing concern among players, coaches, support personnel, district associations and other stakeholders associated with the game.
With the domestic cricket season approaching and schedules for various BCCI tournaments already notified, preparatory activities such as player identification, selection processes, coaching camps, fitness programmes, logistical arrangements and other essential planning exercises have not progressed in the manner and timeframe normally required. This has generated uncertainty among players aspiring to represent Meghalaya and has affected their preparation for upcoming tournaments.
Most importantly, the present circumstances are having a direct impact on the welfare and development of players. Young cricketers across Meghalaya dedicate significant time, effort and resources towards pursuing opportunities in the sport. Many view State representation as a pathway to higher levels of cricket. The lack of clarity regarding cricketing programmes, trials, camps and other developmental activities has affected player morale and created concerns regarding their immediate opportunities and future prospects.
The concerns of the District Cricket Associations are heightened by instances in recent times where players have faced uncertainty regarding participation in competitive tournaments and cricketing events. In certain cases, separate player lists and squad announcements were circulated under the authority of the President and the Honorary Secretary respectively, resulting in confusion and uncertainty among players, parents and other stakeholders. There were also occasions when Meghalaya was unable to participate in scheduled tournaments, thereby depriving eligible players of valuable opportunities for exposure and competition. Such situations are particularly unfortunate for players who invest considerable time, effort and commitment in pursuing the sport and aspiring to represent the State. The affiliated District Cricket Associations are deeply concerned that similar circumstances should not recur, as any missed opportunities for participation, exposure and competition can adversely affect the development, confidence and future of deserving cricketers The players of Meghalaya should not be made to suffer on account of administrative uncertainties and every effort should be made to ensure that their sporting opportunities and interests remain fully protected.
The affiliated District Cricket Associations respectfully submit that while administrative and governance issues may ultimately be resolved through the appropriate processes, any adverse impact on players and their cricketing opportunities may not be capable of being restored or compensated at a later stage. A missed season, delayed preparation, disrupted participation in tournaments, or the loss of developmental opportunities can have lasting consequences on the growth and progression of young cricketers. It is therefore imperative that the interests of players remain protected and that cricketing activities continue without interruption, irrespective of the issues presently affecting the administration of the Association.
The prevailing situation has also hindered the ability of District Cricket Associations to effectively plan and implement grassroots development programmes, talent identification initiatives, age-group activities and district-level competitions. Such programmes play á crucial role in strengthening the cricketing structure of the State and ensuring a continuous pipeline of emerging talent.
The affiliated District Cricket Associations are further facing challenges arising from the interruption of regular administrative and financial processes. During the tenure of the previous Apex Council, grants and financial assistance were being released in a timely manner to support district cricket activities, developmental programmes and other cricket-related initiatives. However, the present situation has adversely affected the flow of such support. Reports appearing in the public domain regarding restrictions affecting the operation of the Association’s bank accounts have further contributed to uncertainty in the release of funds. As a consequence, several District Cricket Associations are finding it increasingly difficult to meet expenditure relating to tournaments, player development activities, coaching programmes and other cricket-related commitments.
The District Cricket Associations are also concerned by reports relating to delays in the disbursement of salaries, honorariums and other financial commitments pertaining to personnel involved in cricket administration and development. Such developments, if unresolved, may adversely affect operational efficiency and create further uncertainty among stakeholders associated with cricket in Meghalaya.
The continuing uncertainty has also attracted increasing public attention and media scrutiny regarding the functioning and governance of the Association. While public interest in cricket administration is understandable, the concerns and questions being raised in the public domain further underscore the need for the restoration of normal functioning, institutional stability and stakeholder confidence at the earliest.
The cumulative effect of these developments is being felt across the cricketing fraternity in the State. Players, parents, coaches, officials and district associations are increasingly concerned about the impact that a prolonged disruption may have on the orderly conduct of cricketing activities and the long-term development of the game in Meghalaya.
In these circumstances, we respectfully request the Board of Control for Cricket in India to kindly consider appropriate intervention at the earliest to ensure the restoration of stability, continuity and effective functioning of cricket administration in Meghalaya, so that the interests of players and the development of cricket within the State do not suffer.
This representation is made solely in the interest of the players, the development of cricket and the welfare of the cricketing community in Meghalaya. We remain hopeful that suitable measures will be taken at the earliest in the larger interest of the game and its stakeholders.
