UNC refuses to accept hostage bodies, demands Kipgen’s removal

Senapati, June 10 (NNN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has decided that the “mortal remains of the six Naga hostages will not be received until the charter of demands are addressed and justice is done for the families of the murdered hostages by the Government of Manipur and the Government of India”.
UNC also said that, “in a peaceful protest and to demand for justice”, it declared a 24-hour total shutdown across Naga areas from 6 am of June 11, to 6 am of June 12.
Accusing theĀ  Leilon Vaiphei villagers and the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) militants for the abduction and killing, UNC demanded abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with all Kuki militant groups. It also demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of all Kuki National Front (KNF-P) personnel involved in the abduction of 18 Naga civilians including two pastors on May 13, at Leilon Vaiphei village and the subsequent “cold blooded murder” of six of them, and also for the murder of Wilson Thanga Chiru at Joujangtek on the same day. Further, the UNC demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Lalboi Vaiphei, chief of Leilon Vaiphei village, along with all individuals involved in the abduction of the above 18 Naga civilians.
UNC then made a declaration of Kuki National Front (KNF-P) as a terrorist organisation.
The UNC also demanded immediate removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the position of Deputy Chief Minister, Manipur, the wife of Semtinthang Thangboi Kipgen, president KNF-P, a Kuki militant group “who is complicit in the murder of the Naga civilians mentioned above”.
The UNC said this will restore the public trust and confidence in the state government. “Her continuation in office will amount to willful compromise of the integrity of internal security concerns of both the State and the Nation at large”, it added.
