Shillong, Nov 25: Former CLP leader Mukul Sangma presented 11 MLAs on Thursday during the media briefing informing the reason for joining Trinamool Congress.
Besides Mukul, Dikkanchi Shira, Miani Shira, Zenith Sangma, Winnerson Sangma, Marthon Sangma, Lazarus Sangma and Jimmy Sangma, former Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope, Himalaya Shangpliang, George Lyngdoh and Shitlang Pale were present.
Both Mukul and Charles tried hard to explain that they joined the new party because only the TMC can be an alternative to all other parties.
They said several meetings were held with Trinamool Congress functionaries and finally, they decided to join the party based on its ideology .
However, the decision to join the TMC came after Shillong MP Vincent Pala became the president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
When asked was it due to the personal differences with Pala that he and others joined the party, Mukul said there is a larger reason.
Mukul had apprised the AICC that consultations would have been held before appointing the new MPCC team.
In the past, the MLAs supporting Mukul had revealed that he was sidelined while effecting a change in the MPCC.
Sources said that Mukul hoped that his group will have a major say in the party matters but Mukul loyalists did not find any place in MPCC either in the position of party president, working presidents or other functionaries.
Another fear among the rebel MLAs was that they will be sidelined while allotting tickets in 2023.
