NHRC asks for report on Chakma harassment from Changlang DC
Shillong, July 2: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the deputy commissioner of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh to submit its action taken report on the complaint filed by the Chakma Development Foundation of India (CDFI) against harassment of human rights activists.
In its complaint on February 11, CDFI alleged false prosecution of the Chakma human rights defenders in Dharmapur village under Miao circle in Changlang district by the ADC under Section 188 CrPC for violations of Section 144 CrPC and removing the pillars erected between Dharmapur and Neoton villages on February 8 by deploying a huge contingent of security forces.
The NHRC took cognizance of the CDFI’s complaint on March 4 and called for the ATR within four weeks from the DC, Changlang. No response was submitted by the DC. On May 6, the NHRC once again directed to submit the ATR but the DC had failed to submit the ATR till date.
