Pharmacists to protest on May 20

Shillong, May 17: The Meghalaya Health Care Association ( MHCA) will join the one-day strike of pharmacist on May 20.

Briefing reporters on the matter on May 15), MHCA President David Kharsati, said  the All India Organisation of Chemist and Druggist (AIOCD), the apex body of  wholesale and retail medicine traders representing more than 12.40 lakh member, has called a nationwide one-day strike on May 20 to highlight various concerns of the pharmaceutical trade, particularly the growing issue of online nedicine sales, deep discounts by corporate companies, spurious drugs, and  circulation of fake or unverified prescriptions.

In support of the call given by its parent body, the MHCA has appealed to pharmacies and wholesalers across Meghalaya to extend their cooperation and solidarity on May 20 making the strike a success.

In-house pharmacies exempted 

The Meghalaya Healthcare Association has urged all the private hospitals and nursing homes to honour outside prescriptions on May 20, so that the patients are not deprived of emergency medicines and in this regard request letter has already been sent to the respective hospitals and nursing homes across the state.

The in-house pharmacies of the  hospitals/nursing homes are kept outside the preview of the strike.

The Meghalaya Health Care Association said it supports the nationwide strike in the larger interest of protecting offline wholesalers and retailers.
