Plea to extend service of health workers

Shillong, May 12: John F Kharshiing, Chairman,the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, stressed the need of providing extension of service to health workers for their sacrifice during Covid-19.

Joining the global community on behalf of the Chiefs of Meghalaya, the Grand Council of Chiefs, has alo extended  greetings to all the nurses on the International Nurses Day celebrated since 1974 choosing May 12 which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

“We salute all the frontline workers, nurses, doctors and those who are posted with power and municipal affairs department, police and all essential service providers for their dedication and sacrifice in the fight against the war on Covid-19”, said  Kharshiing.

He also appealed to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, health department and MLAs of all political parties to consider providing an optional extension of service  of the nurses and doctors either by two or three years as a token of appreciation to their sacrifice in the war on Covid-19.

“It will be the least we can do to appreciate the front line workers by giving them the option to extend their services”, he said.
