Police beef up security ahead of I-Day celebrations

Shillong, Aug 12: Police have beefed up security in the city and other districts of the state ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said all precautionary measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful Independence Day celebration.

He said police have intensified checking of vehicles and patrolling.
Police are more cautious this time in the wake of the recent IED blast at Laitumkhrah market, which injured at least two civilians.
When asked, the SP said that all areas are treated as sensitive and all police outposts and police stations are also put on high alert.
The police are also carrying out joint operations with the BSF to secure the border.
