Shillong, Nov 4 :A city-based NGO organised a special programme on the occasion of Diwali to spread the lights of joy to those households which hitherto remain in the dark even during festivals.
SPARK organised a programme for the underprivileged children, who lit the festival lamps and recited prayers. Additional SP Supriya Das was the chief guest.
About 100 children participated in the programme at the Bara Bazaar slum and Rangmen centres of SPARK. All healthcare protocols were followed during the programme.
Das distributed gifts and clothes among the children and participated in the celebrations.
Other attractions of the programme were some games, dance performance and other recreational activities. The children also made colorful rangoli.
Das spoke about the essence of Deepawali and sensitised the children on the safety measures to be followed while celebrating the occasion, stressing more on an environment-friendly Diwali.
