SPARK celebrates National Girl Child Day

Shillong, Jan 24: SPARK, a city-based NGO working with underprivileged children, celebrated National Girl Child Day on Monday.

Special sessions were conducted on the importance of girl child. From going to school, helping in household work, working in the factories, caring for the elders and younger family members to finally preparing themselves to take on the responsibilities of adulthood, they excel in every field.

“Hence, there is no denial to the fact that girls play important and multiple roles in the household, society and the economy as well,” said a s statement from SPARK.

The founder and president of SPARK, Shima Modak, visited more than 50 families meeting the parents and community people with an objective of creating awareness on the importance of girls’ education, their health, their nutrition and also to promote the position of girl children in the society.

There was a session on awareness on the rights of girl children.

The programmes were organised at all the centres of SPARK, namely Pongkung, Mawlong, Mawlynrei, Rangmen and the Bara Bazaar slum.
