Union minister’s son sent to 2-day police remand over Lakhimpur violence
Lakhimpur Kheri, Oct 22 (UNI): A local court sent Ashish Mishra Monu, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, and three others to two-day police remand here on Friday in connection with October 3 violence in which eight people, including four farmers and a journalist were killed.
The CJM court of Chintaram sent Ashish, Ankit Das, Shekhar and Latif to two days police remand, as was requested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the incident.
The remand commenced from Friday and the SIT took the custody of all four from the district jail, where they are currently lodged. The remand will end on October 24.
Earlier too, Ashish was taken on three days police remand from October 12 to 14.
Meanwhile, District Judge Mukesh Mishra will hear the bail petition of Ashish Mishra on October 28. The CJM court had already rejected his bail petition. Ashish had claimed his innocence in the bail petition.
It has been charged that the SUV in which Ashish was travelling deliberately rammed into the protesting farmers crushing them and others in Tikonia area of Kheri.
On the other hand, Punjab and Chhattisgarh governments on Friday handed over Rs 1 crore as compensation to the families of the 4 farmers and the journalist killed in the violence.
Punjab and Chhattisgarh government ministers handed over Rs 50 lakh cheques separately in Lucknow to the kins of the five deceased.
Meanwhile, UP government on Friday night transferred DIG Upendra Agarwal to the post of DIG Basti.
Agarwal is heading the SIT investigating into the Lakhimpur violence case. Presently he is DIG HQ.
