Shillong, Nov 24:The state government has entrusted retired Chief Justice T Vaiphei to probe the Mukroh firing incident leading to the death of six people.
Chief Secretary DP Wahlang said on Thursday that Vaiphei will probe the entire incident while the special investigation team (SIT) is also investigating into the matter as a case was registered.

Vaiphei is also the chairman of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission.
Earlier on November 23, the Assam cabinet had decided to request Justice Rumi Phukan to conduct a judicial probe to find out the facts and circumstances that led to the incident.
However, an official source said that since the inçident happened well inside Meghalaya, a judicial probe by Meghalaya is proper compared to Assam probe .
