Visually impaired youth wants hike in CM’s special scheme
Shillong, June 8: Visually impaired Bertina Lyngdoh made a plea during the first meeting of state women’s conference on Wednesday to increase the Chief Minister’s Special Assistance Scheme from the current Rs 500 per month.
The scheme is meant for the disadvantaged people of the society, including the differently abled and the widows.

Addressing the gathering in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Bertina said for the last eight years, there has been no change in the amount .
There is a need to increase the amount, she asserted.
Hailing from Sumer village in Ri Bhoi, Bertina proudly announced that she is the first visually impaired person who secured postgraduate degree in English from NEHU.
She is currently pursuing PhD from MLCU.
