Shillong, May 1: Alert chowkidars saved the building of the Meghalaya Government Construction Company Limited (MGCCL), Rilbong from fire on Tuesday night.
According to eyewitnesses, two masked men came in a scooter and hurled petrol bomb towards the MGCC building below from the road above around 11.45 pm.
There was only partial damage to one window and a vehicle as the two chowkidars rushed to the spot and called others for assistance leading to dousing of fire, said an eye witness.
Two more attacks in city
Miscreants also hurled petrol bombs on Sadar and Rynjah police stations around 4.30 am. However, there was no damage.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu said he is coordinating with the SP to ensure that vital installations are protected.
“We are devising a plan so that the government buildings are protected, weare discussing what action we need to initiate and in terms of identifying the culprits who are perpetrating these kinds of attacks and we will update again,” he said.
The DC said necessary advisory has been issued to all government departments and offices.
“In fact, we have informed all line departments to keep their vehicles and properties in a secured way, particularly not to keep in open areas, particularly government vehicles. We are strengthening the security and we are hopeful in the next one or two days we can stabilise things particularly in law and order,” he said.
Trucks torched in Garo Hills
Goons torched two dumper trucks belonging to the ARSS company on Wednesday wee hours in West Garo Hills.
Miscreants resorted to the crime as two youths were injured after they were hit by the trucks belonging to ARSS.
