CPM’s agitation over price hike attacked in Tripura

Agartala, June 28 (UNI): The opposition CPI-M on Monday staged a demonstration in East Agartala police station for demanding arrest of the miscreants who perpetrated an attack on their workers during a demonstration against price hike of essential commodities and fuel in Dhaleswar area of the city under Banamalipur assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

CPI-M leader Amal Chakraborty alleged that a group of 50-60 unknown miscreants on motorbikes suddenly stormed the assembly of demonstrators in the busy road of Dhaleswar raising the ‘Jai Sree Ram’ slogan. They were wearing helmets and armed with sticks and stones. Three persons including a lawyer received a severe head injury in stone-pelting and violent attack in broad daylight on the road.

They ransacked as many as 40 motorbikes of the CPI-M demonstrators and pushed them to the sewerage drain. The attackers hit the women demonstrators indiscriminately and ransacked the party office. The miscreants ran away after CPI-M supporters and the residents raised resistance and chased away the perpetrators, Chakraborty stated.

Later, they stormed Ram Thakur Sangha, the main market of the city M G Bazaar and attacked a similar demonstration of CPI-M. A 70 -year-old protester and three others, including women, were beaten up on the road in presence of police. Following resistance the miscreants left the place, he mentioned.

All six injured were shifted to hospital and one of them was stated to be critical.

“We have identified some of the attackers who came from nearby Aralia and Khayerpur accompanied by BJP cadres of Banamalipur area. Specific complaints against the identified people have been registered and demand police to take action against the attackers. Also, asked to initiate action against the policemen in front of whom attacks were carried out,” Chakraborty added.

He threatened that Left parties would launch a massive movement across the state against the Biplab Kumar Deb government for deteriorating law and order.
