Criticism over appointment of Mid Level Health Providers
Shillong, Aug 28: MPYC general secretary Junebirth Marak has said the unfounded response of the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Mid Level Health Providers (MLHP) has made the Garo Hills nursing staff upset.
In a statement, Marak said the claim of the government that there were no applicants and qualified candidates from the Garo Hills region who meet the requirements is baseless
According to the MPYC leader, the chief minister should verify first as there are many qualified candidates.
He said according to the existing standard, BSc nursing and GNM students are eligible to apply for MLHP. There are no major changes between central and state courses on BSc nursing.
“There was no official notice received nor any advertisement from the NHM Director regarding the matter and hence the students could not apply anymore, there are many eligible candidates even in Garo Hills who were waiting for the advertisement but instead the government made direct appointment from mainly two Institutions- Woodland Nursing Institution and NEIGRIHMS. Woodland is a private Institution they can get employed in any private institution but there are students from the government quota they should be given more priority”, Marak said.
According to Marak, there was an official notice received from the NHM Director that there was only one seat in West Garo Hills and two seats in the North Garo Hills for MLHP, but the number for MLHP increased after the result was declared.
“The appointees are all non-Garos and the postings were all made in the remotest areas of Garo Hills, how can NHM director Ram Kumar expect them to communicate with the villagers and it appears that this doesn’t concern the state government at all”.
