Govt hikes grant-in aid for pre-primary schools

Amended bill okayed to change Williamson Sangma Technical University to state university

Shillong, March 17: Cabinet has approved the enhancement of grant-in-aid for 710 pre-primary schools.

Briefing reporters on Friday, government spokesperson and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh said the grant-in-aid has been enhanced from Rs 12,000 to Rs 18, 000 for all teachers in pre-primary school level.

The financial involvement will be Rs 511 crore annually.

First state university 

The cabinet also cleared the Capt. Williamson Sangma Technical University Amendment Bill which proposes to change the name of the university to Meghalaya’s first state University.

The university will function from Tura.

The name will be know as Capt. Williamson Sangma State University and the amended bill  will be placed on the table of the Assembly.
