Shillong, May 24: The High Power Committee (HPC) of the Assembly on Tuesday decided to have a third party audit of the entire new Assembly building by an IIT team and to halt the construction till the submission of the report.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said that besides the decision on IIT probe, it was also decided to restrict any unauthorised entry to the construction site. The damaged dome will also be sealed.
Depending on the availability of IIT Guwahati, IIT Kolkata and IIT Delhi, one will be selected to carry out the audit and the PWD ( buildings) will write to them, he said.
Subcontractor not constructing NPP office
To a query, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the subcontractor, Badri Rai & Company is not constructing the NPP office.
Answering another question on building PA Sangma stadium and other road works, the chief minister clarified that the company has the history of constructing many quality buildings and roads.
Subcontractor allowed as per agreement
PWD (buildings) minister Dasakhiat Lamare said 40 per cent of the work can be given to the subcontractor as per the agreement and the subcontractor is carrying out that much work.
