Impersonator arrested for offering jobs after taking money

Shillong, May 25: An impersonator was arrested for acting as an intelligence officer of both the  Ministry of Home Affairs and Meghalaya police..

The action was after he duped several job aspirants.

The 39-year-old man identified as Richard Tiplang Swer of Wahingdoh, who has been arrested, will be forwarded to the court, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said  in a statement on Thursday.

One Bolero (ML-05-Z-3007) with siren and VIP blinker, mobile, laptop and incriminating papers have been seized from his house at Wahingdoh, the police said.

Two cases have been registered against Swer at Mawlai police station and Lumdiengjri police station respectively.

The complaint received by the police on May 16 said that Swer, who was claiming to be an IB Officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs offered to provide jobs at the Secretariat, Shillong through MPSC and DSC and told the complainant to collect money from all the persons interested according to their qualifications.

The complainant collected Rs 80 lakh from 38 persons since last one year and paid the amount to him but evaded the complainant when the same was not fulfilled.

Another FIR was received at Lumdiengjri PS on May 22, where the same person impersonated himself as an officer of the Police Special Branch and told the complainant that he can provide jobs in the Police Department under the condition that the applicants pay Rs 1 lakh for non-matriculate and Rs 50,000 for matriculate.

The complainant informed the same to his friends and one of his friends handed over an advance of Rs 50,000 to the person through his driver at Motphran in March this year.

The police said that anyone who has been duped by the impersonator can lodge FIR at the nearest police station.
