Shillong, Dec 28: The Congress state president Vincent Pala has ruled out pre-poll alliance with regional parties unlike the stand of CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh.
Ampareen recently favoured pre-poll alliance with regional parties.
However, speaking to reporters, Pala on Tuesday cited the example of other states where the Congress had pre-poll alliance with other parties but the result was not satisfactory as the number of Congress MLAs was reduced.
“Win or lose, we should ask mandate from the public”, Pala said
Pala downplayed the perception that the Congress will draw blank in the next elections.
“But if one looks at the grassroot level, most of the people are in favour of the Congress coming back to power as the workers and voters will be with the Congress even if some leaders leave the party”, he added.
He said an encouraging sign in Garo Hills was that not a single president or general secretary of the party went with the AITC but remained with the Congress in 24 blocks.
“Leaders can be easily convinced or purchased compared to the voters but to reach thousands of voters is not easy”, he said.
Criticising the MDA ,Pala said the government has failed on all fronts and people will look to the Congress in the next polls
“We have to give the people good candidates and if we do that then people will vote for the Congress only”, he added.
