VPP behaving like Taliban: Tynsong

Shillong, Apr 12: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong wanted the Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi and his police force to maintain law and order during campaigns for the April 19 Lok Sabha polls.

“We have instructed the DGP as well as SPs and DCs of all the districts that they should be proactive in view of the election campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 19, to ensure law and order is maintained,” Tynsong told reporters on Thursday.

The direction is after the disturbance in the campaigns of the NPP in several places leading to issuing of show-cause notices to VPP by the Returning Officer.

Tynsong has accused the opposition Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) for behaving like Talibans

Criticising the VPP for its politics of hate, Tynsong said, “I have seen their speeches. Firstly, they speak about secularism and pluralism but during canvassing, their actions, I have seen that they are like a group which captured Afghanistan, which we called as Taliban group. The Taliban group is ruling in Afghanistan now and what is happening in Afghanistan, you will see there are restrictions on the media, where they are not allowed to report anything. Furthermore, even girls are not allowed to go to school beyond matriculation.”
