Project Clean Surrounding holds awareness for school children
Shillong, Sep 19: Project Clean Surrounding, a city-based NGO, recently organised an awareness programme at Umsaw Mylliem.
The programme β in collaboration with the village health council β focused on environmental degradation and the danger of single-use plastic.
βThe environment is degrading day by day because of our carelessness in maintaining it, especially in keeping the surroundings clean. We pollute streams, rivers and hills and because of our need and greed, we extract stones. The clear and present danger is the excessive use of plastic materials in our day-to-day needs,β said Jefferson Kynjing, who leads the NGO.
The programme venue was aptly chosen as Valley View Secondary School because it was the right time to make the new generation aware of the ecology and teach them to take care of the surroundings.
Project Clean Surrounding has been active in cleaning Shillong and its outskirts and helping unemployed youths find a way of livelihood. It also holds awareness programmes and is involved in social work.
