Senior journalist Rajoo Sharma passes away, CM, Press Club condole death

Shillong, Jan 12: Senior journalist Rajoo Sharma (59) passed away on Tuesday night after a brief illness.

His cremation was held on Wednesday.

Sharma is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Sharma worked with Meghalaya Guardian, Eastern Panorama magazine, Purbanchal Prahari, and The Notheast Today.

He was also the publisher of Eastern Eye.

His last assignment as editor was with news portal Hello Shillong.

The relatives said he was working on a book on journalism.

Extending condolence to the family, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said he was an asset to the media fraternity and his passing away was huge loss to the state.

The Shillong Press Club held a condolence meeting and recalled his contribution.

The Club said he was ready to render any help to his fellow journalists and people.

Journalist and colleague Rajib Chowdhury recalled that he had travelled extensively in the North East for his professional activites and was key member in the exhibition cricket match held between Press Club and 99 Mountain Brigade at Umroi and had scored brilliantly though SPC lost the the match .

Harsh Jhunjhunwala of Eastern Panorama also recalled his contribution.
