Shillong, Aug 20: Legislator from Sohra Gavin Miguel Mylliem was elected as the new president of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh as working president
The decision was made during the Triennial Conference of the party held at Mawkhar here.
Though PDF has four legislators, other two MLAs, Hamletson Dohling representing Mylliem constituency and Jason S Mawlong (Umsning) did not attend the meeting though invitation was sent to them.
Gavin told reporters that the absence of the two legislators will be discussed in the next meeting of the party while the party will explore ways and means to strengthen Mylliem and Umsning.
Both Hamletson and Jason are likely to leave PDF soon.
Hamletson was the working president and Jason was the vice president in the Central Working Committee of the party.
To a question, Gavin said, “We will soon decide on the number of seats that we will be putting up candidates and the decision will be based on the winnability factor
PDF lauds govt on border issue
The PDF appreciated the efforts of the MDA government to resolve the long pending boundary dispute with Assam.
The Sohra legislator said, “Of course I would like to appreciate the MDA government, which we are part of, at least we are moving forward. right from the time we got our statehood, we could see in every election, the candidates came out with the main agenda that they want to solve the border issue.People want a solution to this long pending border dispute but at the end of the day whatever decision the government takes, there will always be some merits and demerits – at least the government is taking things forward and we expect that the result will be good.”
