T20 World Cup: Scotland tame Bangladesh Tigers

Al Amerat, Oct 18 (UNI) Minnows Scotland stunned World No. 6 Bangladesh by six runs in a Group B match of T20 World Cup here on Sunday.

Chris Greaves shone for the winning side as he fired a 28-ball 45 followed by two big wickets while defending 141 runs. His knock proved decisive as he came to bat lower down the order with Scotland reeling at 53/6. He was aptly backed by Mark Watt, who scored 17-ball 22 to take Scotland to 140/9.

Chasing the total, Bangladesh could only manage 134/7 in 20 overs with pacer Brad Wheal (3/24) and Greaves (2/19) doing the bulk of the damage.

Mushfiqur Rahim (38) and Shakib Al Hasan (20) did put up a fight but they were dismissed by Greaves.

Wheal and Josh Davey (1/24) removed openers Liton Das (5 off 7) and Soumya Sarkar (5 off 5) respectively by the fourth over.

Hasan and Rahim added 47 runs for the third wicket to bring Bangladesh back on track for the chase but the duo fell in quick succession to leave the side worried at 74/4 at the beginning of the 14th over.

Skipper Mahmadullah (23) got little help in his attempt to chase down during the remaining overs and eventually fell short of the target by six runs while losing three more wickets.

Brief scores: Scotland: 140/9 in 20 overs (George Munsey 29, Chris Greaves 45; Mahedi Hasan 3/19, Shakib Al Hasan 2/17). Bangladesh: 134/7 in 20 overs (Mushfiqur Rahim 38; Chris Greaves 2/19, Bradley Wheal 3/24).
