Shillong, Jan 12: Mixed response has emerged after Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh stopped to help two injured tourists from Assam at Mawkdok, Sohra on Sunday morning.
While some hailed this as a positive example of good samaritans, others pointed out about the timing of the gesture as the district council polls are approaching.
A section of the people wanted to know the status of the case regarding Hudderfield Rymbui who died on November 15 last year after the escort vehicle of cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh hit the bike rider. A lady pillion rider was injured in the incident. They were on the way to attend Cherry Blossom Festival.
Later, people had criticised the VIP culture.
Police are yet to file chargesheet on the case as FSL report is awaited.
No discussion on VIP culture in cabinet
On November 22, the chief minister had released a video statement stressing that the cabinet will meet to discuss resentment against VIP culture in the state.
According to the chief minister, the government will come up with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on the use of sirens, tinted glasses, and flickering lights in the state, and the same will be strictly implemented to minimise the inconvenience caused to the public.
However, the cabinet is yet to decide on the matter.
