WJH healthcare system in a shambles
JNC writes to DMHO about shortage of medicines, beds & staff
Shillong, Oct 8: The healthcare system in West Jaintia Hills is ailing leading to poor services to locals.
Several primary and community health centres in the district have shortage of medicines and erratic power supply. The post-mortem department at Jowai Civil Hospital has only one staff and MCH Jowai has less number of seats, making it difficult for locals to avail of medical care. There is also a lack of ambulances.
The Jaintia National Council (JNC) western zone pointed out all these shortcomings during its meeting with the district medical health officer, Dr K Dhar, in Jowai on Tuesday.
JNC urged Dhar to increase the number of beds at MCH Jowai. It also wants the Health Department to hire an assistant at the post-mortem department at Civil Hospital.
The council also wants the government to start the construction of the new building of the Pdengshakap PHC as it was promised by the then Health Minister AL. Hek.
The JNC also urged the government to allot at least two drivers in each PHC and CHC.
In its letter, the JNC asked for a nursing examination centre in the JaiƱtia Hills region.
