Bodies of Naga hostages found a day after Kukis’ release

Imphal, June 10 (NNN): Tension is running high in Manipur following the recovery of bodies of the six Naga hostages after 28 days.
In its social media post on Wednesday afternoon, Manipur police said, “After nearly 24 hours of sustained search operations involving around 450 personnel of the Manipur Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles, assisted by sniffer dogs and forensic expert teams, the mortal remains of six persons were recovered this afternoon. The deceased are believed to be among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, 2026”.
However, the police did not mention the specific location where the bodies were found. They also did not mention the condition of the mortal remains. “Necessary legal formalities are being carried out by the police, and the investigation is underway,” they added.
Reports said the mortal remains are that of the six Nagas abducted on May 13 from Leilon Vaiphei village area under Kangpokpi district. Naga organisations accused the Kuki militants for the abduction.
Meanwhile, a huge gathering was witnessed, till the filing of this report, at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal East as reports said that the mortal remains of the six Nagas would be brought there. The people were still pouring in while this report was being filed tonight.
The mortal remains of the six Nagas were found a day after 14 Kukis detained in Senapati district were released by the Naga organisations.
Following the “abduction of 20 Nagas by the Kukis” on May 13 in Kangpokpi district, the Nagas, as a pressure tactic to ensure the release of the abducted Nagas, detained these Kukis. Though 14 Nagas – women and a child – were released on May 15, six abducted Nagas were untraced till June 9.
