Book on Netaji released in city
Shillong, Jan 23: Veteran educationist Uma Purkayasthya released her book, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Shillong, on the occasion of the national hero’s 125th birth anniversary on Sunday.
The book reflects on the freedom fighter’s contributions to the North East and his visit to the hill city.
Talking to Meghalaya Monitor, Purkayasthya said she started researching on Netaji’s visit to Shillong and his works here in 1965. Later, her encounters with several senior citizens further piqued her interest in the subject.
“Several prominent personalities in Shillong, including my mentor Prof. Samadar Bhattacharya, helped me gather historical facts. The book is the culmination of the long research,” said the octogenarian author.
Purkayasthya has written several articles in prominent newspapers in Assam and Kolkata.
