Shillong, Nov 23: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) Western Zone has raised the issue of poor infrastructure, such as roads and electricity, in the border villages of West Jaintia Hills.
The JNC members, led by its president Hamehi Bamon, met Mowkaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh on Friday and informed him of the problems affecting villages within his constituency, specifically regarding conducting census in the unsurveyed villages, road connectivity, electricity and healthcare services.
JNC also submitted a memorandum stating the lack of proper road connectivity starting from Myntang and encompassing seven more villages.
“These villages urgently require upgraded roads to facilitate smooth transportation and connectivity. Currently, road conditions within these villages are poor road surfaces, insufficient drainage which led to certain consequences such as difficulties in accessing healthcare services, reduced economic opportunities and increased travel time, exclusively during rainy seasons,” a media statement said.
The council also stated the urgent need for electricity in five villages. It also requested the local MLA to provide ambulances to the seven villages ensuring timely medical assistance and emergency care.
Sungoh ensured that he would speak to the government for fulfilling the demands.
