‘Facilitation centres used for Covid screening’
Shillong, Feb 22:The facilitation centres at Umling, Umroi Airport and Mendipathar railway station have been entrusted to the Health and Family Welfare department for use as Covid-19 screening centres.
During the hearing of a PIL on Tuesday filed by Ibahunlang Nongkynrih & others, a notification in this regard issued on December 7, last year was brought to the notice of the High Court of Meghalaya.
The PIL is against regulating the movement of visitors to the state.
The court observed that by such notification, the facilities at the facilitation centres in Umling, Umroi Airport and Mendipathar Railway Station were handed over to the Health and Family Welfare Department for use as Covid-19 screening centres.
The implication is that such centres were not used for the purpose of screening desirable or undesirable elements entering the state but only to screen the persons who were coming in as to whether they were afflicted by the dreaded disease, it said.
The court has directed the state government to file an affidavit within a fortnight.
The next hearing will be held on March 16.
